Are little bladder leaks a disease?

A:
No, LBL is generally not a disease. It’s simply a condition that many women live with on a daily basis, and it definitely isn’t life threatening or anything. As always, though, you should check with your doctor, as some times it can be caused by something more serious.
Q:
Why don’t men experience bladder leaks like women do?

A:
First of all, men do experience bladder leaks occasionally, but usually for different medical reasons. A woman’s urinary system is much different than a mans, and is often times more vulnerable to the types of issues that can lead to little bladder leaks.
Q:
I’ve been hearing a lot about “overactive bladder.” What is the difference between that and LBL?

A:
Good question. Overactive bladder is simply another name for what doctors call urge incontinence, so it is a “type” of bladder leak, but it isn’t the only one. Light bladder leaks encompass a lot more than just OAB.
Q:
My doctor told me I should try to reduce my BMI [Body Mass Index] to help my LBL. Does weight really have an effect on bladder control?

A:
Yes, definitely. Even a few pounds can make a big difference. Extra weight increases intra-abdominal pressure, and a 5% - 10% weight loss can significantly help reduce it.
